Since 2021, this iconic Parisian landmark — renowned for its spectacular glass roof — has been undergoing a major restoration led by François Chatillon, Chief Architect of Historic Monuments. In June 2024, part of the building reopened for the Olympic Games, marking a key moment in its renaissance ahead of the full reopening in 2025.
A long-standing patron of the Grand Palais, Chanel also founded le19M — a site at Porte d’Aubervilliers dedicated to both the creation and transmission of exceptional craftsmanship in fashion and decoration. For the occasion, the house commissioned a one-of-a-kind textile installation. Suspended at the southern end of the nave, where the upper and lower galleries now connect, the architectural curtain reveals a striking new perspective on the renovated interior.
The work was crafted collectively by several maisons from le19M, which has become home to twelve heritage workshops since 2021. The project was led by MTX, a studio specialised in embroidery for interior architecture. Its artistic director, Matthieu Bassée, shared how the curtain was conceived as a gesture of revelation and transmission — blending heritage, textile innovation and contemporary scenography in a setting as emblematic as the Grand Palais.
