Mytilula is an innovative textile work designed by hors-studio — a circular design studio founded by Élodie Michaud and Rebecca Fezard — in collaboration with Cécile Feilchenfeldt, a knitwear designer known for her avant-garde work with fashion houses. Together, they created a bioclimatic curtain made from mussel byssus, a natural fibre secreted by shellfish, now considered a waste material by the French mussel farming industry.
Through careful collection, transformation and refinement, this marine co-product has been reintegrated into an environmentally engaged textile design process. Knitted, naturally dyed, and combined with copper threads that reflect sunlight, this insulating, light-responsive fabric explores how design can respond to today’s energy challenges.
The project was selected as one of the 30 finalists of the Loewe Craft Prize 2025, and is being exhibited in Madrid.
