As part of the Festival des Cabanes organised by the Villa Medici, I wrote an editorial feature for Archistorm magazine exploring the architectural projects presented in situ. Through a series of interviews, the piece sheds light on the architects’ intentions, technical choices, contextual challenges and local collaborations that enrich each project.

Launched in 2022 at the Villa Medici — the prestigious French academy in the heart of Rome — the festival offers a unique immersive experience in the historic gardens, showcasing cabins designed by European architects, designers and artists. This year, Atelier MARE champions the use of Provençal cane, MBL Architectes combines industrial materials with craftsmanship, the Huttopia Foundation, in collaboration with Théo Kermarrec, Pierre Robion and Charles Waltmann, is creating a modular cabin, CAMPO and the Architectural Association unveil Chiostro, an immersive installation, while Associates Architecture imagines PAN-ORAMA, a dialogue between Rome and the natural world.

Under the direction of Sam Stourdzé, the festival invites visitors to rethink how we inhabit and engage with the landscape, focusing on material reuse, environmentally responsible design approaches and emerging practices. The fourth edition runs from 5 June to 29 September 2025 and features five new installations alongside a programme of workshops, talks and artistic performances.

The feature is part of the current issue, available on newsstands.
